Pulled Apart By Horses have just revealed their new single ‘V.E.N.O.M’ and February UK tour dates. This is the first taste of the band’s second album ‘Tough Love’, produced by Foo Fighters/Pixies collaborator Gil Norton.

The band will play 10 shows across the UK. There seems to be a lot of excitement surrounding these guys at the moment. And by the sound of this little touch, the album is going to be ace. Keep em coming!

To say this is nauseating is an understatement….its f*in mental, I’m pretty much lost for words. It goes way overboard, but clearly their living life to the full, need I say.. ‘in an ridiculously insane fashion’. That said, the idea of a ‘bucket list’ seems interesting, maybe not as extreme as this one.
I warn you, their pushing the boundaries to the extreme, but this is definitely worth a watch.

I think this T-shirt pretty much sums these guys up…suits all circumstances too!

The other night we had the pleasure of attending a night at Never Records as part of the Merge Festival. For those uninitiated in what this entailed, have a read of what’s below. Basically band turn up to a studio at Never Records having booked a space, they then play and record straight onto a record. That’s right, not an MP-tree actual vinyl. It’s cut then and there, they design the cover then it heads out into the store out the front. What a great idea and such a cool space as well.

The night we went there had live performances from a variety of people including a drum solo where the drummer used about 100 roses as drumsticks… trust us it was brilliant. Head down there whilst you can for something completely different.

“An opportunity for collaboration, unplugged and rare musical performances” -Ted Riederer.

“A love letter to the dying concept of the record store” – Wall Street Journal

New York artist Ted Riederer will be bringing his critically acclaimed multi media project Never Records to London for the first time in September 2011 as part of the MERGE festival. Never Records is an art installation in the guise of a record store that only stocks vinyl that has been cut in the shop itself. Using microphones and specialist vinyl-cutting turntable at one end of the “store” Ted will be recording musicians and performers on the spot before giving them freshly pressed 12inch records with individually signed sleeves. In a limited edition of 2, Riederer will give one record to the performer and will stock the other in the store.

Visitors will be able to select records from the racks to play within the store. Never Records explores the potential of using a record store and record label; to unite, educate, and uplift a community through recorded sound, Riederer’s project began in an abandoned Tower Records in New York City and has since been recreated around the world. The Wall Street Journal described the installation as a “mock shop” that served as a “love letter to the dying concept of the record store.”

This is the fourth appearance of Never Records since its beginnings in an old Tower Records Store in New York City, its presence at the Biennial Arts Festival in Liverpool, UK in 2010 and at the Context Gallery in Derry in May 2011. Never Records will travel to New Orleans after London.

GET INVOLVED

If you’re a performer of any kind and would like to cut a record, please email neverrecordslondon@gmail.com and tell us about what you would like to do and why. Recording slots are limited and take place Wednesdays to Sundays in September 2011. You will get one free vinyl record of your perfomance and the other will become part of the artwork in the shop.

These twoWolverhampton B-Boys have cooked up a diverse five track EP which will be released on Wolftown Recordings in January 2011. Tom Peels TrippleClick It!

Midlands singer-songwriter releases through Fly53’s old friends.

Armed with a set of tools ranging from an old Power Mac to a 1940’s Reel to Reel tape deck, Tom Peel (already a prolific songwriter with a sizable back catalogue) set about recording ‘TrippleClick It’ in his bedroom in Witton, Birmingham in May 2010.

Having honed recording techniques during sessions for his last album ‘Logoff’, Tom

continued with this process by altering and manipulating parts performed by other

musicians (see distorted cello hook on ‘When I Die’). He attributes the signature sound of ‘TrippleClick It’ to his own unique recording methods “I like the limitations of recording in my bedroom. It allows the listener to hear where I’ve come from, and how cheap my equipment is.”

The release of this EP comes through Fly53’s old friends ‘The Traps’ own independent record label, Speech Fewapy Records (www.speechfewapy.com). We headed over to discover that although the EP is available for free, you have earn it by helping Tom put his 1940’s tape deck back together, a bit fun and a personal touch in a world of plain old digital downloads!

‘TrippleClick It’ is light-heartedly reflective and veers away from convention whilst still maintaining it’s sure-fire pop credentials. ‘TrippleClick It’ is one of those few experiences in life when everything comes together to create a moment, a sentiment that Tom sums up perfectly. “At the end of one of the songs, you can actually hear an ice cream van going down my road. I like stuff like that”.

We like it too. Have a listen for yourself by heading over to http://speechfewapy.com/store/music/tom-peel-tripple-click-it/ and helping Tom piece back his tape deck to grab your copy.

FLY53 Halloween Skull Hunt

The Legend of the FLY53 name

The legend of the FLY53 name sits within the foundations of the much under-publicised 1970 Bolivian Olympic Games. This was the last time the now outlawed sport of “Full Contact Kickball” was seen in any competitive shape or form. The games were brutally dominated by the legendary FLY53 Team, (Dubbed “The Wolf Team” due to the beast-like appearance of team captain Lenny Grubbs), scoring a record number of points and inflicting an unprecedented amount of injuries on opposing team members.

Upon returning to their native soil of the UK, controversy ensued when the seemingly invincible “Wolfman Grubbs” was kidnapped by a radical anti-kickball protest group. His fate remained a mystery for many years, although rumours suggested he was neutered and found working as a florist in Kidderminster.  After many years of whispers and rumors FLY53 founding Father, Captain Lenny ‘Wolfman’ Grubbs, was finally discovered and tempted back into the FLY53 fold.

Mystery, supposition and controversy still surround his life and his activities remain hazy to even the inner most circle of Fly53.   Suffice to say ‘The Wolfman’ is back. To commemorate him and the original FLY53 team a collection of engraved skulls have been created by FLY53, with a special  Limited Edition “Golden Skull” for Halloween.

You can find these skulls in most FLY53 stockists and in the official FLY53 stores, but to get your hands on a Limited Edition Halloween skull, it will take some extra special knowledge only for the elite  followers of FLY53…
