FLY53 friend Ashleigh Ashley sent us her latest live video the other day and we love it!

Covering the beautiful ‘Glory Box’ originally penned by Portishead, Ashleigh brings her trademark soulful swagger to the live stage and effortlessly breathes new life into the classic track originally released in 1994.

In the video Ashleigh is wearing the Base Cover Knit Dress which she customises herself, with the shoulder attachments and beads. We love the creativity and can’t wait for the next video to wing it’s way into the FLY53 office!

Right, who’s stuck to their New Years Resolutions? FLY53 chose to give up carbs, chocolate and alcohol at the turn of the new year, we vowed to hit the gym on a daily basis and promised to quit shopping. Well, we’re only just in to 2011 and so far we’ve gorged on toast, the left over quality streets and have hit the sales pretty hard, so we can positively say we’re not doing too well at the whole ‘New Years Resolution’ thing.

To be fair though, why would anyone want to give up shopping? It’s far too fun! Especially when there are discounts EVERYWHERE. But we’ve decided that the people who fought their way through department door stores on boxing day were pure crazy, every style maven knows it’s in the New Year when the good stuff goes on sale! Even now there are sneaky new lines added to the sales section and whilst everyone else has left eager for the ‘new in’ section, we get to reap the rewards. It has to be said, we love the sport of shopping but we’d much prefer to shop the sales online from the comfort of our own home.

But what to buy and what to leave, whatever happens you want the things you buy to take you right in to next season. Need a little help? Here are FLY53′s best picks…

First up we have the Minefield dress and you’d be absolutely mad not to buy this amazing frock, and it’s not just us who love it, InStyle.co.uk love it too! Right now we’re wearing ours with super thick tights and lace up biker boots  but come spring, the tights and boots will be off and we’ll be teaming it with a chic denim jacket, an embellished necklace and a pair of stunning block heels. Voila, a transitional dress for a mere £26. Bargain!

Next up we have the gorgeous Evacuee ditzy floral print dress which looks super hot the way the model is wearing it, with her cool patterned tights, loose hair and her trilby hat she gets top marks from us! However come Summer we’ll be tucking this dress in to our high-waisted distressed denim shorts and adding a pair of wedges to the mix, we might leave the hat on though!

A hero Tshirt is a wardrobe staple come rain or shine. In the summer you’ll be wearing this with a long flowing skirt, sandals and a top knot bun. Right now you’ll be wearing it with leather leggings and a black fur coat. Be warned, buy it now or regret it later.

On the Spring Summer catwalk purple reigned, looking to be the most popular of the pastel shades this year so get on board and take your cue with this gorgeous Pathogen cardigan in lilac that will look great today and in months to come. What’s more, lilac is also the hottest colour for nails this season, so for an extra amethyst accent, Essie’s Lilacism, £9, and Revlon’s Lilac Pastelle, £6 are FLY53′s top favourites.

But what will you be choosing this year? Will it be the shiny sequin number, the skinny jeans and glam top combo or the trusty little black dress? Well if you ask us, there’s no competition! The LBD wins every time. The little black dress is the all important wardrobe staple. Smart but understated, sexy but demure, the LBD has provided us with fashion moments too numerous to mention, from Audrey Hepburn’s humble Givenchy shift to Liz Hurley’s rather less modest safety-pinned Versace number (that dress was pretty hideous, looking back, come to think of it).

For decades now the LBD has been a girl’s best friend, it can be worn again and again, whether on its own with just a slick of red lippy or busy with lots of accessories. Depending on the kinda girl you are an LBD can be worn with sky high shoes or tough biker boots, with a chic military jacket or a luxe faux-fur coat.

There are plenty of LBD’s to choose from on the high street but here at FLY53 we have two favourites. You might remember earlier this month FLY53 got involved with VOGUE’s Fashion Night IN and on the night we released two LBD’s that, quite rightly, were a massive success! The Demo dress is super sexy but bang on trend with a definite rock chick vibe, perfect for any Christmas night out. Likewise, the Vice dress is super hot!
