This week we’e sending some serious Fly53 love out to one of our favourite independent retailers Boola in Richmond, North Yorkshire. These guys have been repping the very best of Fly53 for 6 years now and keeping North Yorkshire looking well…’Fly.’

Continuing in its plans for world domination Boola have just opened a second shop in Newton Aycliffe offering both men and women’s designer clothes. Before Boola opened it’s doors two weeks ago there was little in the way of men’s fashion in town and the gents of Newton Aycliffe had to venture out to nearby Darlington, Bishop or Durham to cater to their fashion needs.

Now, with Boola right on their doorstep they can find everything the modern man could desire to keep them looking firmly on trend. A welcome addition to the town without a doubt.

If your planning on getting away, leaving the chaos of city life behind for a few days, Richmond ticks all the boxes, beautiful and serene yet still offering a dam good night out it’s a must on your ‘to visit’ list. While your there check out the Boola teams favourite watering hole, ‘The Buck Inn,’ offering the finest pub grub, a drinks menu to rival any pub who dares, and a beautiful garden to enjoy those oh so precious rays of summer.

But most importantly head over to Boola where we gaurentee a warm reception from owner Mark Shepherd who was born and grew up in Newton and of course the finest threads in town!

We at Fly53 have decided to give you a hand with your wardrobe this summer. Here’s our first post of many to show off our favourite clothing compilation of the week. Put together by our very stylish, fashion forward and generally cool head designer Chris.

FLY53 win Best British Fashion Brand 2010

We’re giving ourselves a big pat on the back at FLY53 this week as we’ve managed to secure one of the most coveted fashion awards in our sector for 2010, DJ Mag’s Best of British Award for Best Fashion Brand! Here’s the article from DJ Mag’s website:

Flying High – FLY53 spread their wings

FLY53 had originally been in the business of making t-shirts for friends’ bands, noodling around printing up limited edition t-shirts for mates and other skatewear labels before they realized that they could be doing it for themselves.

“We played around at making garments, making a load of mistakes. Then we found a factory in Nottingham that made parachute gear but had also learned how to make jackets,” explains Marketing Manager Clara Dooley. “We wanted to make some technical snowboard jackets, and this guy was prepared to try it and do it with us. When they hit the stores they sold like crazy. FLY53 was born.”

Broadly influenced by youth culture and underground fraternities, both past and present, their designs nod heavily to the technical and functional aspects of military clothing. However, it’s music that is their true passion. “Be it the songs or the clothes that the artists wear, we look to this industry for our main line of inspiration, season after season,” Clara elaborates.

It’s also possibly because of their sharp wit and edge that DJmag readers hold them close to their hearts. Who can forget their hilarious ‘Ketamine, Just Say Neigh’ classic t-shirts?! “We have an undercurrent theme of subversion throughout our collections, whether this be a twist on show in traditional pieces or through the dark humour displayed in our graphics,” Clara confirms.

2011 is going to be a massive year for them. After spending 2010 putting in the groundwork, they will be revealing their stand-alone concept stores in the UK. They’re currently working on a number of secret collaborations with artists, which they will also shine light on in the new year.

“FLY53 is growing rapidly throughout the UK as this award shows us! We will be popping up with lots of exciting things next year, so be sure to keep in touch with us and follow what we are doing,” promises Clara.

And a word to your fans? “It has to be a thanks from us to you, it’s great to know that so many people are appreciating what we do. Most importantly, keep talking to us through our online channels, it’s always great to get feedback on what we are doing — right and wrong!”

If you’re anything like the FLY53 girl you’ll know the importance of the finishing touches. Whether it be a trilby hat, an embellished necklace or the perfect rock-chick belt, the accessories are as important as the clothes you wear and the attitude you sport.

Whilst we love a bit of glitz and girly glamour, right now we’re injecting a little bit of masculinity into our look with the help of the Boyfriend Watch. Today the fashion pack want larger, more masculine watches that will get them noticed! The A-list love their Boyfriend Watches too, Victoria Beckham has her masculine rose gold Rolex (a gift from hubby David Beckham), The City star Olivia Palermo is rarely seen without her chunky watch and even Kristen Bell does masculine chic with the help of a jet black watch.

Men-inspired watches can be easily identified – the large dial is either round or square and it is usually numbered. Nevertheless, there are watches that still keep some feminine touches, such as the presence of pebbles around the dial or a light coloured face.

The colour trend ranges from metallic to neon shades but black is what we’ll be going for this season – we love FLY53′s range of masculine watches and for less than £90 you can’t go wrong! Don’t get us wrong, we love going out, honestly we do, but with the clocks going back this weekend and the temperature dropping below zero we’re finding the comfort of our sofa VERY appealing.
