RIYA: LIVE IN TOKYO
FLY53′s friend Riya, seen here in Barricade Dress, recently made a trip out to Japan to play to a packed house at the Womb Club in Tokyo. Check out the pics below…and the rest of the FLY53 Dresses at www.fly53store.com .
FASHION MONTH IS OVER!
It’s fair to say that the UK has style! We’re not fashion sheep to catwalk trends and we know how to look like we don’t give a damn when it comes to fashion (even if we do a little bit). We like to look a little dishevelled and we can do rock chick way better than Taylor Momsen – bad example, she looks a little bit scary lately but you know what we mean!
The style mavens hitting the cobbles of Somerset House were impressive to say the least, they wouldn’t look out of place in our SS11 preview paper that’s for sure. If you haven’t already looked, what are you waiting for? Click here to take a sneaky peak.
As you can see the FLY53 girl is cool personified, she’s comfortable in her own skin. She loves her t-shirts layered up with stylish summer cardigans, she’s not afraid to show a little bit of skin and she knows how to have a mighty good time, not just with her fashion but in life. The FLY53 girl knows it’s not all about bags and shoes, she can don a
FLY53 Daria jersey and perch a feather hat on her head and still look hot. She doesn’t conform, she won’t conform! She can’t be torn away from her leather jacket and she certainly won’t be told what to wear or how to wear it.
While the majority of us may not be able to afford all the great clothes on the catwalks this past month they can still inspire us to look our very best. As can the girls on the street who inspire FLY53 on a daily basis, just take a look at the ladies we found hanging around at fashion week (see top), they’re very FLY53 doncha think?

But we love carbs, chocolate and SALE SHOPPING…
Right, who’s stuck to their New Years Resolutions? FLY53 chose to give up carbs, chocolate and alcohol at the turn of the new year, we vowed to hit the gym on a daily basis and promised to quit shopping. Well, we’re only just in to 2011 and so far we’ve gorged on toast, the left over quality streets and have hit the sales pretty hard, so we can positively say we’re not doing too well at the whole ‘New Years Resolution’ thing.
To be fair though, why would anyone want to give up shopping? It’s far too fun! Especially when there are discounts EVERYWHERE. But we’ve decided that the people who fought their way through department door stores on boxing day were pure crazy, every style maven knows it’s in the New Year when the good stuff goes on sale! Even now there are sneaky new lines added to the sales section and whilst everyone else has left eager for the ‘new in’ section, we get to reap the rewards. It has to be said, we love the sport of shopping but we’d much prefer to shop the sales online from the comfort of our own home.
But what to buy and what to leave, whatever happens you want the things you buy to take you right in to next season. Need a little help? Here are FLY53′s best picks…
First up we have the Minefield dress and you’d be absolutely mad not to buy this amazing frock, and it’s not just us who love it, InStyle.co.uk love it too! Right now we’re wearing ours with super thick tights and lace up biker boots but come spring, the tights and boots will be off and we’ll be teaming it with a chic denim jacket, an embellished necklace and a pair of stunning block heels. Voila, a transitional dress for a mere £26. Bargain!
Next up we have the gorgeous Evacuee ditzy floral print dress which looks super hot the way the model is wearing it, with her cool patterned tights, loose hair and her trilby hat she gets top marks from us! However come Summer we’ll be tucking this dress in to our high-waisted distressed denim shorts and adding a pair of wedges to the mix, we might leave the hat on though!
A hero Tshirt is a wardrobe staple come rain or shine. In the summer you’ll be wearing this with a long flowing skirt, sandals and a top knot bun. Right now you’ll be wearing it with leather leggings and a black fur coat. Be warned, buy it now or regret it later.
On the Spring Summer catwalk purple reigned, looking to be the most popular of the pastel shades this year so get on board and take your cue with this gorgeous Pathogen cardigan in lilac that will look great today and in months to come. What’s more, lilac is also the hottest colour for nails this season, so for an extra amethyst accent, Essie’s Lilacism, £9, and Revlon’s Lilac Pastelle, £6 are FLY53′s top favourites.

Every summer has its key looks, and 2010 is no different. Obviously FLY53 are leading the way and coincidently seem to have many pieces in our Spring/Summer Collection that fit every ‘On Trend’ look this coming season. Like we said, leaders not followers. Over the next few weeks the blog is goin to examine the looks that will be shaping the summer, and the pieces from our new collection that fit into these catagories. This week Colour.
We all know that when the sun comes out, its time for colour. The key is to not go over the top, try wearing one bright garment and the rest more understated. This will not only make the colour you choose stand out, but will make sure you dont look like a big neon cone….you can still be bright without going over the top. With that being said, here are a few bright coloured options from our collection….
Team either of these pieces with something a tad less daring, for example the jacket with a dark t-shirt or the vest top with a dark skirt….These are just ideas, but may make the difference between you being fashionable this summer, or being that overly bright wearing friend whose outfit just screams ‘look at me!’. There are plenty of ways you can create a understated colourful look from our new collection, so head on over to our online shop today and check it out…
