Our good friend Scroobius Pip has just released an album of spectacular brilliance and we are so pleased that we are offering a one time exclusive competition to our loyal fans.

Pip’s new album is a who’s who of universally great music. The Loud are the hottest new garage band on the scene. They’ve already played with legends, Iggy & The Stooges and have kicked up a stir with an EP. Now they’re unleashing their debut LP ‘Harris Shutter’ on the world. For the launch, and in true ‘The Loud’ style, they’ve decided on a ‘fuck-off warehouse party’ at a secret location in Liverpool this Friday (19th August) and frankly looking at that line-up, that description isn’t going to be far wrong, expect burst ear drums and a sore head come Saturday morning. You hear the cliche ‘not one to be missed’ thrown around like a beach ball at a Nickelback concert but this time it’s spot on. We’ll be there, you coming?

Speech Fewapy: Remix Contest

SPEECH FEWAPY RECORDS: REMIX COMPETITION

FLY53’s friends over at Speech Fewapy Records are teaming up with Solihull-based electronic two-piece Waler to run a contest that gives both budding and established producers the opportunity to remix their track ‘No Excuses’. The best submitted remixes will be selected to feature on the ‘No Excuses – Remix EP’ and released on digital download and CD on 2 May 2011.

Following on from the release of their debut LP ‘Formulas’ in September 2010, Waler (consisting of John Napier and Vincent Gould) intend to continue the genre-spanning philosophy of the album with ‘No Excuses – Remix EP’.

John says that “although No Excuses is the catchiest and most accessible track on the record, lyrically it’s also a lot more abstract so I think it opens up a lot of possibilities for re-interpretation”. With such a blank canvas, Waler hope that the contest will unveil blossoming and genuine talent, and that the attraction of a nationwide release on the rapidly upcoming Speech Fewapy Records label will undoubtedly lure producers out of the bedroom.

Vincent also sees flip side of the coin, envisaging the contest as an opportunity for Waler to hear new styles and broaden their own tastes “We just want to listen to good ideas, don’t worry if you don’t have equipment or knowledge to master your track as we can sort that out. We’re looking for artists not professionals”.

To remix “No Excuses’ and be in with a chance of featuring on the EP, you will need to visit the dedicated mini-site on the official Speech Fewapy Records website by clicking HERE. From there you will be able to hear the original track and download all the stems you’ll need for your remix. You will also find the email address to which you must send your submission.

Deadline for all submissions is 6pm on Friday 25 March 2011.

‘No Excuses – Remix EP’ will be released on Monday 2 May 2011.

FLY53 Halloween Skull Hunt

The Legend of the FLY53 name

The legend of the FLY53 name sits within the foundations of the much under-publicised 1970 Bolivian Olympic Games. This was the last time the now outlawed sport of “Full Contact Kickball” was seen in any competitive shape or form. The games were brutally dominated by the legendary FLY53 Team, (Dubbed “The Wolf Team” due to the beast-like appearance of team captain Lenny Grubbs), scoring a record number of points and inflicting an unprecedented amount of injuries on opposing team members.

Upon returning to their native soil of the UK, controversy ensued when the seemingly invincible “Wolfman Grubbs” was kidnapped by a radical anti-kickball protest group. His fate remained a mystery for many years, although rumours suggested he was neutered and found working as a florist in Kidderminster. After many years of whispers and rumors FLY53 founding Father, Captain Lenny ‘Wolfman’ Grubbs, was finally discovered and tempted back into the FLY53 fold.

Mystery, supposition and controversy still surround his life and his activities remain hazy to even the inner most circle of Fly53. Suffice to say ‘The Wolfman’ is back. To commemorate him and the original FLY53 team a collection of engraved skulls have been created by FLY53, with a special Limited Edition “Golden Skull” for Halloween.

You can find these skulls in most FLY53 stockists and in the official FLY53 stores, but to get your hands on a Limited Edition Halloween skull, it will take some extra special knowledge only for the elite followers of FLY53…
