Round 1……..fight
If you have only ever heard of Hadouken! from Streetfighter, you really are stuck in the 90’s. Check out a band of the same name, and you may well forget the beat ‘em up game of the past and associate the word with a Dance-Rock act causing knockouts all over the country. The band met at Leeds Uni, and have created a mash-up of genres that genuinely works, fronted by the grime-esque vocals of James Smith and the backbone synth work of Alice Spooner. The band have just been named as headliners of the Shockwaves NME tour in February, with their second album ‘For The Masses’ released only a week earlier on legendary Kitsune Records (also Atlantic Records). The band have had sweet couple of years, initially plugged by Mike Skinner in 2007 their relentless work schedule, energetic stage show and genre expanding music earned them various festival slots and has led to their recent NME Tour position.
The follow up album too Music for an Accelerated Culture drops on 25th Jan 2010, so expect a full review in our Music section, and make sure you cop it and hit your ears with a Sonic Boom
