Fly Music for 2010
2009 was a mixed bag for music, some amazing albums from a range of genres and even more reality TV generated bollocks with Simon Cowell dominating the top 10 for the latter half of the year (seriously, what the f*ck was that all about?), but the year ended well withRATM taking the #1 spot for xmas, so let’s hope 2010 brings out more of this resistance on music! If you need a little help here are our recommendations on artists/albums to look out for in 2010…
The Drums – One of the most eclectic sounding bands to emerege in the last couple of years, they range from surfpop to Iggy pop in their sounds influences…extensively touring in 2010 so get out and see them.. http://www.myspace.com/thedrumsforever
Them Crooked Vultures….The Line-up alone is enough to warrant excitement with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Josh Homme of QOTSA and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters making up a real rock n roll supergroup. Their debut self-titled album was an awesome hit in 2009, hitting the album chart at #13, so expect to see them at festivals this summer! http://www.myspace.com/crookedvultures
Hadouken! Already friends of FLY53, their follow up album is released early this year. Check out their great review in Q magazine of their gigs in Tokyo and London…Should be a BIG year for this band!
Midlake – “The Courage of Others” is the new album from Midlake which is due to be released in February this year. Its been described as bold and ambitious with a sound reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac (is that a good thing? you decide.) Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/midlake
Broken Bells – Super producer Danger Mouse and The Shins frontman James Mercer….strange partnership with debut album dropping this year..who knows what it will bring! http://www.myspace.com/brokenbells
The Avett Brothers- This alternative, folk-rock band have a similar sound to the raw country style roots of Kings of Leon. Signed by Rick Rubin this band is gaining fans after returning to their country roots in the US of A. Listen to them strum their banjo strings here http://www.myspace.com/theavettbrothers
MGMT- New Album scheduled for release in April/May should be another slice of electro-pop gold. They are promising that there will be no radio friendly singles on this one, what a declaration! Sounds exciting, but is it true? we shall see…
