We stretched off our necks and prepared to kill some brain cells worshipping some of the current gods of metalcore because the Rockstar: Taste Of Chaos Tour rolled into Birmingham…and was EPIC!
In our opinion, this event showcased the best side of the Metal genre; hardcore bands that are technically sound but successfully fuse melodies with brutal, guttural vocals…something that many Metal bands have failed to pull off…
The whole night kicked off with Maylene and the sons of Disaster, but unfortunately due to ticketing issues we missed them and half of the Every Time I Die set waiting in the cold and rain! We eventually got in and the sound was amazing, they belted through a few songs off their recent album, and closed with the monster hit We’rewolf …which was kick ass….the next 50minutes can be described as pure hell..In Flames, in our opinion the three of us who went (two being FLY employees) are terrible. Cheesy theatrical metal, at times ripping the styles of epic Metallica songs such as ONE left us in a bad mood…luckily the final band were on next.
Headlining the event were the mighty Killswitch Engage, who have been at the forefront of the Metalcore scene since their debut album The End Of Heartache dropped in 2004. The band sounded amazing, and the fan favourites such as End of Heartache just blew the crowd away. Adam Dutkiewicz was on form, in trademark cape and shorts shredding his way through their set while running the distance of a marathon runner….they sure made up for the In Flames experience. Killswitch and E.T.I.D are definitely on the wish list of acts to see again in the future.
