Some ideas Where to be this weekend
Friday 29th January
o2 Birmingham, Propaganda
The UK’S self proclaimed biggest indie night rolls into its fortnightly residence in Birmingham’s 02 arena. Expect decent music and a lot of cliche dressing…if you dont love Indie…id stay away…
Underground Rebel Bingo Club,Islington
Sooner or later, this event will be a victim of its own success, by attracting the wrong crowd. Luckily this event tries its best to be secretive, and is still full of the right people. Bingo for the tattooed/burlesque crowd….expect a night of debauchery, a mental atmosphere and best of all….bingo!
Imelda May, o2 Glasgow
The Irish rockabilly songstress continues her UK tour at the o2 in Glasgow, and is not a gig to be missed. If you have not heard Imelda May, we recommend you do. She has managed to bring rockabilly into the mainstream without selling out the roots of the culture. Her music ranges from hyped up anthems to slow beautiful ballads..this lady has the full package, and with a live band the musics impact is even bigger.
Miike Snow, Oxford Academy
Miike Snow are going to be big. Fact. Most people would recognise track ‘Black and Blue’ from Sony’s advertising campaign for christmas 2009..even if you dont know it by name…you will when you listen to it for sure. Their debut self titled album gained critical acclaim and drew comparisons to Animal Collective meets a-ha. Catch them on their first UK tour before everyone knows about them and your arguing that ‘you heard them first’
Saturday 29th January
Guilty Pleasures, Koko, Camden
The infamous Guilty Pleasures hosted nights rocks into KOKO for another taste of the weird and wonderful world of the London party scene. The night is always a sell out so if you have not already got tickets, get on it or get down early. Its random, its cheesy and host DJ Sean Rowley screams down the mike in true wedding DJ style….you shouldnt love it but you know that you do
