New Releases For Jan 2010..

Vampire Weekend ‘Contra’
Its strange to think that Vampire Weekend only came onto the scene in 2008. Their debut album made number 10 in rolling stones best albums of 2009, and the band have been breeding fans ever since. Love them or hate them, the band are one of the most unique acts to emerge in the last few years and their new album ‘Contra’ promises to cement this title further. Frontman Ezra Koenig shows his lyrical growth throughout the album, and its clear that the bands entire sound has been broadened, managing to go beyond the box their sound had created, without sacrificing what made them great in the first place.

Delphic ‘Acolyte’
Rock/Dance acts usually mean one thing…shit. The formula for most crossover bands seems simple in its elements…team a beefed up drum track, add a huge bassline and couple with a guitar melody. Unfortunately this usually leads to a horrible mess that does not sit well audibly, and leaves a cheesy taste in the mouth. There are however, a few that have managed to make this recipe work, such as Hadouken! and crossover tracks from Underworld and The Chemical Brothers. Delphic have thankfully managed to make it into the latter list. The debut album is a pleasure on the ears and the influences of artists like Underworld and The Chems’ can be heard throughout. Definitely an album worth checking out.
